On November 22, 2024, in Hanoi, Woori Bank participated as a sponsor in the 2024 Vietnam-Korea Digital Forum under the theme “Global Conference on Virtual Convergence Economy.”
The forum, first held in 2021, has been organized for the fourth time this year at the Lotte Hotel Hanoi, with a new name and vision to keep pace with the Industry 4.0 era. To date, South Korea and Vietnam have continued to strengthen their collaboration in digital technology. The two countries share many similarities and have numerous opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the development of digital technologies and the digital workforce.
Attendees from Vietnam included the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology. From South Korea, the Director of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and the Consul General of the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam participated. Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Communications from Malaysia was also in attendance. At the event, representatives from various organizations came together to share knowledge and exchange experiences on the application of technologies such as ICT, as well as future visions for AR/VR.

Woori Bank Vietnam was represented by CEO Park Jongil and Head of Digital Unit and Digital Planning Division, Mr. Choi Chi Ho, who attended the forum as a sponsor. With a vision of becoming “Good Finance for the Next”, Woori Bank has consistently shown a strong commitment to the development of fintech and supports the creative ideas of the younger generation in finance. At the 2024 Startup Global Competition, part of this event, Woori Bank had the opportunity to listen to many promising startup projects presented by university students with an interest in ICT. The forum acted as a bridge between these students and universities, businesses, and research institutions from South Korea and around the world, helping them enhance and industrialize their startup projects.
Amid the growing potential for digital credit development on the metaverse platform, Mr. Choi Chi Ho shared insights on Woori Bank’s plans to develop its digital banking sector. He provided examples of trials involving Digital Branch implementation on the Metaverse platform, discussed the potential use of AI-bankers to serve customers at the Digital Branch, and proposed new solutions like Security Token Offerings (STO), which have garnered wide interest. He also made suggestions on integrating Extended Reality (XR) technology with finance, which was presented to forum attendees.

Vietnam is rated as one of the fastest-growing digital economies in Southeast Asia and has achieved impressive results in global digital transformation rankings, such as a 15-place rise in the 2024 Electronic Government Development Index, ranking 71st out of 193 countries; a 2-place increase in the 2024 Global Innovation Index, ranking 44th out of 133 countries; and an 8-place rise in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index, ranking 17th out of 194 countries. These achievements further strengthen Woori Bank’s confidence in developing the latest digital credit models in the Vietnamese market.
With a 125-year history in South Korea and 27 years of operations in Vietnam, Woori Bank will continue leveraging its strength as a leading South Korean enterprise to advance the digital economy in the Vietnamese domestic market, narrowing the gap for customers in accessing the best financial products and services.
